EPIC FAIL: It’s about more security control, not gun control
The astounding failure by federal authorities charged with keeping America safe from the likes of the Orlando terrorist shooter seems to be missed on those who beat the mantra of gun control. The very background checks that gun controllers are demanding more of, and other federal measures, proved to be of no effect in preventing Omar Mateen from slaughtering 50 people in Orlando.
Consider the following epic federal security fails:
The FBI let Mateen slip through its grasp despite interviewing him twice since in 2013 due to a lack of evidence to hold him. (Bloomberg)
The pro-Taliban father of Matten “served as a director and vice president” which authorities describe as a “breeding ground” for jihadists. (Counter Jihad)
The Fort Pierce Islamic Center, where Mateen worshiped several times a week, was under investigation by both the FBI and DHS as early as 2011 for ties to a worldwide Islamic movement known as Tablighi Jamaal which was linked to several terrorist organizations. But the 2011 investigation was shut down under pressure from then Hillary Clinton-ran State Dept., and DHS’s Civil Rights and Civil Liberties Office, out of fear of offending Muslims, according to recently retired DHS agent Philip Haney.
A Florida gun store owner says he tried to alert federal authorities about Mateen — after he tried to buy body armor and bulk ammunition. (ABC News) Mateen was investigated twice by the FBI in 2013 and 2014 for suspected ties to extremists. In both instances, they determined he was not a threat.
Law enforcement sources told ABC News that he had a .223 caliber AR-type rifle and a Glock handgun on him at the time of the shooting, which the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives says he bought legally.
Officials confirmed that Mateen had been interviewed three times by the FBI in the years leading up to the shooting because his name came up in connection to two different cases. Such information would not show up in a background check because both cases were closed.
Mateen was licensed as a weapons-eligible security guard through the Jupiter, Fla headquartered US subsidiary of G4S plc, a multinational British corporation that is the largest security provider in the world. (Palm Beach Post)
Despite the blatant gross negligence by our government listed above, there have been no calls from Congress, or by the president, for investigations of the State Dept, the FBI, or the DHS. Nor has anyone been suspended, reprimanded or fired for what is obvious a dereliction of duty. Why the silence, then, when it’s obvious we have a security problem, not a gun control problem?
More rancorous calls for disarming American citizens is all that you will hear coming from the ruling elite, even when it is their failure to enforce the rules they made but did not enforce, who are to blame for Mateen having a gun. It is epic security fails like these that rightly proves the argument for Americans who say it is time to take their protection into their own hands, just like the elite do with their private armed bodyguards, while calling law abiding pro 2nd Amendment citizens “extremists” -- from behind their gated communities, of course.
