Millennial View: Politics are Important

I was extremely excited for this election cycle, for numerous reasons.

1. I was FINALLY old enough to vote.

2. I was ready for the current government incumbents to leave.

3. I found candidates and issues I was passionate about and excited to support.

When I started hearing the presidential candidates talk about themselves and what they believed I became hopeful for the future of America. I was a huge Ben Carson supporter from the very beginning, but I know enough about the US populous to know that he never really had a chance. I soon began to realize that the only REAL hope for America was Donald Trump, and I began to support him, and do some social media campaigning. I even tried to enter into discussion with fellow students at my local community college, but I was always disappointed to discover that none of them had any interest in politics. I got the same response many times, "Lets talk about something else, I HATE politics". I began to wonder why the youth of America despises their political system, refusing even to discuss important upcoming elections. Do they not realize that without gaining information, entering into discussions, and participating in the politics of the United States they are forfeiting their liberties? The apathy of the American people will lead to the eventual fall of the United States as we know it. We The People are in control of our government, the only reason it has become corrupt is because we have allowed it to, and then refuse to address the issues because they are depressing, or uncomfortable. William Penn, founder of Pennsylvania, said

“Governments, like clocks, go from the motion men give them, and as governments are made and moved by men, so by them [men] they are ruined too. Wherefore governments rather depend upon men than men upon governments. Let men be good, and the government cannot be bad..."

If we ignore the problems facing our country it will only become more and more corrupt. Let us not look on our political duties as a hindrance, but as a wonderful right, and responsibility. Let us embrace these things with courage, and willingness to learn the TRUTH. There was never a more important time to get involved than now. as George Washington once said, "The time is near at hand which must determine whether Americans are to be free men or slaves." Don't turn your backs on politics. Don't hate politics. Don't be apathetic. Instead take a hold of your right to control your government. Edward Everett Hale, author and American clergyman said,

"I am only one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. And because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do the something that I can do. What I can do, I should do, and what I should do, by the grace of God, I will do."
